Doon

Doon was my heart dog from the moment I told the adoption volunteer I wanted to hold the fluffy one. He was 8 weeks old. He came home with me that day. He grew into the strong leader of our pack. His quiet (and occasionally loud) presence made everyone feel safe. When he was nine, I found a lump on his throat. I was terrified. It was thyroid cancer and he had half of his thyroid removed that month. Doon recovered well and lived a happy life for 1 1/2 years. He then developed lymphoma and succumbed to it rather quickly. My heart was shattered and I still cry for him six years later. I honored him with a Sweet gum tree in my backyard. In the fall the leaves turn the color of his beautiful coat. I will miss him forever, but I feel like he lives on in the puppy I got to fill the massive hole in my heart.
