When Daenerys was just six weeks old, she came into my life and changed it forever. Thirteen years later, she’s still my best friend, my adventure buddy, and the heart of our family.

Earlier this year, we received the devastating news that she had hemangiosarcoma. Instead of letting her diagnosis define the time we had left, I decided to focus on giving her the fullest, happiest life possible. I dove into research, worked closely with her veterinarian, changed her diet, and added supportive supplements, including medicinal mushroom powder. To everyone’s surprise—including her veterinarian—she continues to thrive. Her tumors have even begun shrinking, and she still wakes up every day ready for her next adventure.

After her diagnosis, I started checking items off her “bark-et list.” She’s enjoyed two professional photoshoots, hiked through Big Bend National Park, floated a river for the first time, cruised on a private boat, and now firmly believes every errand—including a quick trip to Walmart—is meant for both of us.

Daenerys has always had the sweetest soul. She loves people, watches TV like it’s made just for her, and if there’s a horror movie on, she’ll happily sit beside me and watch every minute. She’s proof that joy can still exist even after the hardest news.

Cancer may be part of Daenerys’ story, but it is not the whole story. She has taught me to celebrate every sunrise, every walk, every cuddle, and every adventure. She reminds me every day that hope, love, and determination are stronger than fear. She may not know she’s fighting cancer. She just knows she’s loved—and every day, she reminds me how to live a life worth fighting for.

No matter what tomorrow brings, Daenerys will always be my greatest adventure and my bravest girl.
