In 2016, a 10 month old puppy, Colton, was purchased by the USDA to become an agriculture detection dog. He was previously trained to be a assistance canine for wheel chair bound persons, but needed a job with more things to do. Colton was highly intelligent and certified quickly with the USDA. When he was selected into a class to be deployed, a cancer mass was detected. Biopsy confirmed it was hemangiosarcoma.
After, a few rounds of chemotherapy another mass was detected, but thankfully was not cancerous. The oncologist surgeon indicated prognosis of life as only fair. Due to his HMA being dermal to subdermal and most research is on internal HMA. After surgery, Colton finished chemo, and was adopted by his USDA trainer. Given a new name of Coilin, which means youthful warrior, he is now 9 yrs old and 8 yrs cancer free. He rocks sun shirts everyday to paw-tect against cancer.
